Write to Sell

In partnership with Powell River Tourism, PRWC is launching a pilot project that will not only promote Powell River and area, but will show writers how to earn an income selling stories to magazines.

WANTED: Ten writers who wish to learn how or polish up writing saleable articles. Whether published or not, join “Write to Sell.” Meetings include assignments, how to write 300-500 word articlettes, query letters, what magazines to pitch to, follow up and more. Here’s your chance to learn more about the area, hone your skills, and earn an income doing what you love to do.

Jan.12 update on project launched Dec.5:

We had enthusiastic response  with 10 writers joining  Group 1. In two sessions with Barb Rees and Gary Grieco they produced saleable articlettes on The Patricia Theatre theme. With the assistance of Ann Nelson, owner of the theatre and her endless wealth of knowledge the group did very well. Several have since submitted to magazines. Barb is tracking the results. Group 2 using the theme “Powell River’s Centennial” begins Jan.16 and meets again Jan. 26. Write to Sell’s goal was to inspire more writers to branch out into the magazine world and earn an income. Results will be posted here in the months to come and articles that sell may also show up on Tourism Powell River’s website.
